Preventing COVID-19 Spread During Flu Season

Flu season has arrived in Florida, and with the COVID-19 pandemic still being a concern, it is more important than ever to take steps to prevent the spread of both the flu and COVID-19. Luckily there are many steps that workplaces and employees can take to stay safe and healthy.

Taking Steps to Prevent the Spread

What are some things that workplaces can do to keep everyone safe and healthy to prevent a second wave of COVID-19 outbreaks in the midst of flu season? Here are some helpful tips:

Washing Hands

Handwashing is important in stopping the spread of any contagious disease. Employers should make it easy for workers to regularly wash their hands by providing hand sanitizer or hand washing stations through out the workplace.

PPE

Personal protective equipment protects workers from contracting both COVID-19 and the flu. Wearing face masks, gloves, coveralls safety glasses and using workstation guards can prevent the spread of disease in addition to protecting against hazards that are found on jobsites. Employers should make sure that their workers are fully outfitted with the PPE they need to safely get their job done.

Sanitizing Supplies

Cleaning frequently touched surfaces and common areas can prevent workers from contracting the virus. Employers should make sure their workplace is stocked with disinfectant spray, disinfectant wipes, alcohol wipes, cleaning towels, sanitizing solution, and any other sanitizing supplies that are needed.

Masks

One of the most important ways that everyone can contribute to stopping the spread of COVID-19 during flu season is by wearing a mask. Employers should ensure that all their employees and anyone who enters the workplace is wearing a mask.

COVID Screening Onsite

One way to prevent sick workers from spreading COVID-19 is to have onsite screening which includes temperature taking and COVID questionnaires asking about symptoms. Screening employees will help you detect COVID-19 symptoms early on to have a safer workplace.

Temperature Taking

Fever is one of the symptoms of COVID-19. Doing temperature checks in your workplace can help to identify anyone who may have COVID-19 and prevent them from spreading it to others. Using infrared thermal scanners is an easy, quick and safe method to take temperatures.

Social Distancing

Promoting social distancing in your workplace helps workers avoid contracting the virus. Place signage at your jobsite or workplace that encourages social distancing amongst workers and anyone else in the workplace.
